IPv6 Migration Services
Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) is the next generation protocol which will address important issues of its predecessor IPv4. Nowadays, out of the of 4.3 billion IPv4 addresses, 60% are allocated to the United States and the other 40% are shared by the rest of the world, including emerging countries like China and India.

With information increasing exponentially and applications and devices improving every day, IPv4 addressing will just not be enough. The evolution to IPv6 will not only provide enhanced routing and network reconfiguration features, but it will strengthen network security, speed and mobility among users.

Back in 2005, the U.S. Government mandated all Federal agencies to be IPv6 compliant by June 2008 setting off aggressive migration plans. As a result, more and more IPv6 based network equipment is hitting the markets and IT strategies are leaning towards the IPv6 migration. Even though this is not a critical issue right now, technology is changing every day and compatibility issues are likely to grow among network devices when operating both protocols.

This is why every organization should develop a migration plan that avoids un‐planned investments in equipment and software. Network users need to take a look at their network infrastructure and develop a migration plan.

What services can ESEI provide?
ESEI IPv6 Migration Services are designed to help our customers assess, plan, and implement a smooth migration to IPv6 keeping in mind the financial impact this can have.

• Network assessment
• Requirement analysis
• Transition Planning
• Network Architecture and Design
• Service Provider Evaluation and Integration
• Project Management
• Integration and Testing
• Training

ESEI engineers studied and tested different migration mechanisms in a lab, their findings and test results were compiled in a white paper titled “An Enterprise Perspective on IPv6 Transition Mechanisms” in December 2007. This paper was presented at several conferences and later published by the International Engineering Consortium (IEC) Annual Revision of IP Communications. To download the paper click here.
